Nut Allergies

Be Prepared for a Nut Allergy Reaction
Unfortunately, there are very few things that can be done for an individual that has nut allergies. For the most part, there are two things that you're going to need to carry with you at all times. First of all, you should have antihistamine with you in case of a mild allergy that takes place if you happen to ingest some kind of nut without knowing it. In order to avoid a more severe form of peanut allergy, known as anaphylaxis, you're going to need to carry and epinephrine autoinjector. If you have a severe enough allergy that you need the injector in order to overcome the symptoms, don't even bother taking the antihistamine. The injector is going to save your life, the antihistamine is just going to take the edge off of the symptoms.
It also always helps to be prepared by watching the types of foods that you are eating. Never eat something with nuts and it if you know you have a problem, pay attention to the ingredients on the label. You would be surprised with where many of the foods that we eat have nuts hidden somewhere in the ingredients.
A Hidden Danger for Those Allergic to Nuts
There are plenty of people that have food allergies. As a matter of fact, it is difficult to find anybody that never has a reaction to something that they eat. This is often evident whenever they are clearing their throats after a meal and whether they realize it or not, what they are having is an allergic reaction. There are times, however, whenever we may have a more severe form of food allergy. One of the most common types of severe food allergies is one to nuts and peanuts.
The reason why I separate the two of these is because the peanut is a legume while the tree nut is actually a dried fruit. Many people that are allergic to peanuts are not allergic to tree nuts and vice versa. That being said, you need to make sure that you are well informed ahead of time in order to avoid ingesting any nuts that may be hidden underneath the surface. Eventually, you will become very efficient at being able to identify these things but if you are just realizing that you or someone you love has a nut allergy, you may be caught unawares.
The first thing that you're going to need to avoid is any food that is prepared at the same place where nuts are in existence. For example, a scoop of ice cream may seem like something that is perfectly harmless but the same scoop is also used in order to dish out the pistachio ice cream. The same is also true of candies that are made at a candy shop and also in many factories. This is what is known as cross contamination and it presents a real danger for those of us that have a problem with nut allergies.
If you are dealing with an extremely severe nut allergy, you may also have to go much further than that in order to avoid it altogether. For example, if you are on an airplane, you should inform the stewardess as soon as you go on board that you have a problem with nut allergies. If it is severe, they will be required to not pass out nuts on that particular flight. You should also be careful of food that you are feeding any pets that you may have and even watch out for dog saliva as it may contain some of the proteins that trigger an allergic reaction if they eat that type of food.
What Causes of Nut Allergies?
Nut allergies are fairly common and at times, they may even be life threatening. The fact of the matter is, not all of us that are allergic to nuts and peanuts are going to have a life-threatening reaction because of it. This is because there is a difference between a nut allergy and nut intolerance. Let's take a look at the two of these and see what causes them to happen in an individual. This will help you to determine which you are dealing with and what kind of caution you should take in order to avoid this type of food.
The fact of the matter is, nut allergies happen for the same reason, whether we have an intolerance to them or if we are allergic. The body reacts to things that we ingest and at times, it may consider them to be a foreign body that needs to be attacked and destroyed. There are proteins that are present in nuts and peanuts that will trigger a release of histamine in order to counteract their effect. Even though the protein is not necessarily bad for us, the body considers it to be bad and what we are actually having is a reaction because of the histamine that is being released.
This histamine can cause a number of different problems in our bodies which include respiratory problems, difficulties with the G.I. tract, our skin breaking out and even cardiovascular problems. If you have a severe allergy to nuts, you may end up with something that is known as anaphylaxis. This is a severe reaction to nuts where the airways will swell and blood pressures will drop. You may end up passing out or being unable to breathe and it certainly can be life-threatening if it is not taking care of immediately.
You should discuss these things with your doctor if you have a suspicion that you are dealing with nut allergies. Through a series of allergy testing, they will be able to determine your degree of allergic reaction and what should be done about it. You may just have to carry some histamine with you or perhaps take a little bit of salt under your tongue if you have a minor reaction. If your reaction is major, however, you may be told to carry an autoinjector which will quickly give you the medicine that you need in order to save your life.
Nuts Aren't Only in Your Food
I have heard about people that have dealt with nut allergies and I've certainly seen the signs in food establishments which warned those people that nuts are also present there. I really didn't have an idea, however, of exactly how severe a nut allergy was until I saw it with my own eyes. If this person would not have had a small autoinjector with them, they certainly would have died because moments after ingesting a little bit of cross contaminated food, they were having a difficulty breathing and were on their way to passing out.
After doing a little bit of research, I was surprised to find out that it was not only food that was the culprit whenever it came to nut allergies. Yes, eating is the most common way that people with this type of allergic reaction come in contact with nuts but there are also several other ways that need to be kept in mind for people that are having a problem in this area. This can make things rather complicated but it is something that you have to pay attention to or else you could end up with a reaction that you may not be able to overcome.
A good example of this are items that we may pick up secondhand. It is not unusual for us to get things that are secondhand, whether they come from people that we know or perhaps people that we don't know. Yard sales, eBay, flea markets and secondhand stores are all areas which we end up coming in contact with these items. The fact of the matter is, we don't know who or what owned these items before us and how often nuts may have come into contact with it. For example, secondhand children's toys could very well have been touched by children who loved peanut butter. This can pose a severe risk for our children who are dealing with a strong peanut allergy.
If you have allergies such as this which are life-threatening, you need to make sure that you are doing everything in your power to avoid it. Nuts tend to be everywhere and once you begin looking, you would be surprised with where you're going to find them. Make sure that you take the time in order to know for yourself, you may just save your own life or the life of someone that you care about.
Coping When You Have Severe Nut Allergies
Having allergic reactions is certainly not an enjoyable thing but if you have severe reactions, it can be more than just a simple inconvenience. I know plenty of people that have food allergies and some of them have to be so careful that they tend to avoid eating out except on very special occasions. When they do eat out, they have all of the products and supplies that they need just in case they have a severe reaction that they are unable to overcome. This is especially the case for friends of mine who have extremely severe nut allergies. Here is how they tend to cope with things so that they are able to live life as normally as possible.
The first thing that is important for those that have nut allergies is that they are as informed on the subject as possible. It is not enough for these individuals to simply avoid eating nuts directly, they also need to avoid eating anything that may have been cross contaminated. These not only come from the factory where perhaps something that is manufactured is also made in a factory which handles these types of nuts. It is also the case in our local area, where cross-contamination can occur in our local deli or even our ice cream shops. You need to make sure that you're thinking about this constantly because you would be surprised with how little contact it takes in order to produce a severe reaction.
Another thing that is necessary is for everybody that is involved in your life to be aware of the fact that you have nut allergies as well. This is not only the case of those who are going to be preparing your food but it is also the case of anybody that you tend to be around regularly. Let them know that it is not a simple matter of you having a slight allergy but that if you come in contact with nuts in any form, it could mean your very life. If somebody is not willing to at least take you into consideration, they aren't somebody that has your best interest in mind.
Of course, it also helps if you carry the proper medication in order to overcome any allergic reactions that you may have. Always have antihistamine with you and if your doctor prescribes one, carry an autoinjector. These things may save your life in case of a reaction, make sure that you always have them.
The Skin Prick Test for Nut Allergies
You would be surprised at the number of people who have to deal with food allergies and in particular, nut allergies. This is not only the case with tree nuts but it is especially the case with peanuts, as these are two totally different things. Although it certainly is possible for somebody to have an allergy to both, it is more likely that they will have an allergy to one or the other. This is because there are specific proteins that are in nuts which invoke a response in our body as if they were harming us in some way. It is not really a reaction to the nuts that we are having, it is a reaction because our body is releasing histamine in such large quantities that it becomes damaging to our health.
Of course, a nut allergy does not always come about in such a severe form whenever it first starts out. As a matter of fact, many parents who have children with severe nut allergies don't even recognize the fact that it is taking place, sometimes until a severe reaction occurs. That is why it is necessary, if you see any of these reactions that are occurring whenever nuts are eaten that you inform your doctor immediately so that they are able to test and see if there is actually a problem there. Although there are several different type of test for allergies, one of the most common than is given is known as the skin prick test.
The skin prick test is relatively easy to take and it only takes moments in order for the doctor to determine if you have a nut allergy or not. Basically, they are going to prick you with a needle which has a little bit of the nut protein on it in order to see if you have a reaction on your skin. It is very rare that you also have a larger reaction to this type of test but your doctor will be prepared in case such a thing occurs. It is really just a little scratch and is not something that you need to worry about, as if it were a shot.
Knowing for sure whether you have a nut allergy or not can save your life. Once you realize that you have one of these problems, then you can go about avoiding them and living your life normally, although nut free.
Is It Possible to Outgrow Nut Allergies?
Most of us that have nut allergies tend to have them whenever we are children. We may not even realize that we have them at first and it is our parents to pick up on the fact that we are having a difficult time whenever we eat this type of food. To be certain, it is a good thing if our parents are reacting to this type of situation because what appears to be a slight allergy today could actually end up being a life-threatening allergy tomorrow. Since most children tend to develop this type of allergy whenever they are still young, many of them wonder if they are ever going to outgrow it.
It certainly is possible for you to be able to outgrow a nut allergy but unfortunately, it is also a very rare thing. As a matter of fact, it is thought that only about 20% of all individuals who have a severe allergic reaction to nuts are ever going to outgrow it. Even if they do, they're still going to need to be cautious anytime they come in contact with this type of food. The reason why this is the case is because you never know whenever a reaction is going to resurface and could cause a life-threatening situation which you may not be prepared for.
That is why it is a good idea to always have the medication that you need in order to get over a severe reaction to nuts if necessary. Don't leave this to chance, always make sure that you are carrying your antihistamine with you and if your doctor prescribe it, your epinephrine autoinjector. Although you may think that you have overcome your allergy, it may still be lurking underneath the surface and if it should happen to show up, you will not want to be caught unawares.
It is also possible for a person to develop this type of allergy whenever they are an adult. Whenever this happens, it is typically more than a temporary reaction to this type of food. If you recognize that you are having a difficult time whenever you are eating nuts or peanuts, discontinue the use of them and speak with your doctor immediately so he can determine if you're having a problem. Never fool around with nut allergies, it is one of the more severe type of food allergies that you can have so it is nothing for you to ignore.
Is My Nut Allergy Genetic?
I have been dealing with a nut allergy for my entire life. It started whenever I was very young and although at the time it was extremely mild, it eventually grew into something that was more severe. There were several times whenever I ingested food which was cross contaminated with different type of nuts that I had reactions which I thought I was not going to get through. That is why I was very careful whenever I had my own children, to watch if they would have a similar allergy, themselves.
One of the ways that I approached the situation cautiously is that I never allowed my young children to come in contact with nuts in any way until they were old enough to tell me if they were having a difficulty. Even then, I was still cautious with the amount that I fed them because I knew how severe of a problem this could be. I also needed to be cautious because of my own allergic reaction and out of fear that by having this type of food in the house, I would be affected negatively. I did not want to necessarily deprive my children of the opportunity to have this type of food but it was also a judgment call on my part to limit their exposure to it at a very young age.
Fortunately, my children are perfectly fine and they have grown up and eat nuts and nut products on a regular basis. None of them have any problems but I was surprised to find out that genetics are often at the root of allergic reactions. Although it is not always the case, things like this do tend to run in families for one reason or another. The simple fact of the matter is, it does happen but medical science is unable to explain why.
If you have a problem with a nut allergy, you should likewise be cautious with your children, especially when they are very young. Feeding them nuts if they are allergic to them can cause such a severe reaction that they could die. Don't take chances like this otherwise you may end up with a situation on your hands that you certainly don't want to have. It is a good idea for you to find out if your children share the same allergies as you do but it is also a good idea for you to wait until they're old enough to let you know if they are having a problem or not.
Will My Peanut Allergy Come Back?
Whenever I was a young child, my parents began to recognize the fact that I was having a difficult time with certain types of foods. As it turns out, I was allergic to a lot of the foods that I was eating but it was not necessarily because I have a lot of allergies, it was because of a common factor that was in many of these foods. This was an allergic reaction that I was having to nuts, specifically, peanuts. I do not have an allergic reaction to other types of tree nuts because they are a different type of food, altogether. Peanuts are legumes and they have a specific type of protein in them which I was having allergic reaction to.
My parents were very careful to keep me away from anything that contain nuts, nut oil or had been cross contaminated in some way or another with peanuts. Unfortunately, I love the taste of peanut butter but I knew that eating just a little bit of it could possibly cause a reaction in me that would kill me. I had felt mild reactions to it and it even had a difficult time in breathing a time or two so even from a very young age, I knew that it was not a good idea to push the situation.
As I grew older, the nut allergy seemed to disappear and I was not having allergic reactions, even when I knew I was coming in contact with cross contaminated items. I felt really good about this but I was also very cautious not to go all out and start eating peanuts. The reason why this is the case is because I was fearful that the reaction would show up unexpectedly and I will be caught unawares. Even though it was good not to have to worry too much about the foods that I was eating, I was also very cautious in order to stay away from eating peanuts directly.
The fact of the matter is, if you have overcome a peanut allergy, you never know what it is going to resurface again. The difficult part about this is that if it happens to resurface out of the blue, you may not be prepared for it as if you thought you still had it. That is why it is a good idea that if you have a nut allergy at one point in your life, you always live as if you still had it.
Risks Associated with Nut Allergies
If you recognize that you have food allergies because of reactions that you're having after you eat, you would probably be surprised to find out how many times it is actually nuts that you are having a reaction to. As a matter of fact, there is a very short list of foods that has been put out which pose extreme risks for individuals that have an allergy to them. One of the leading foods on that list is different types of tree nuts as well as peanuts.
Whenever an individual has an allergy to nuts or peanuts, there is actually something that is going on behind the scenes which you may not be aware of. There are various types of protein that are in these nuts which invoke a response in our body that is quite unusual. Our body releases a chemical that is known as histamine in response to any of these proteins. The reason why it does this is because it is actually reacting to them in an improper manner. Instead of ingesting them and getting nutrition from them, it actually feels as if they are a foreign body and needs to be attacked and removed. It is not the protein that we are having a reaction to, it is our own body that is causing the reaction as a result of the histamine that is releasing.
If a person is having a problem with nut allergies, there are several different risks that need to be taken into consideration. The most common problem that occurs as a result of this release of histamine is respiratory distress. As a matter of fact, a person can have a severe reaction to nuts which is known as anaphylaxis and this can cause their airways to swell shut, killing them if appropriate action is not taken.
Other problems can occur as a result of nut allergies which include gastrointestinal distress, skin reactions and even reactions within our cardiovascular system. That is why it is important for anybody that is dealing with nut allergies to avoid them altogether if they are going to be successful in overcoming them. It is not simply enough to avoid them sometimes because you never know whenever one of these reactions is going to occur severe enough that it will threaten your life. Make sure that you do what is necessary in order to avoid the problem with nut allergies and be prepared should an accidental ingestion happen to occur.
Is It Possible to Overcome Nut Allergies?
Whenever an individual is truly dealing with a nut allergy, it is very rare that they are ever going to be able to overcome the problem. Any doctor is going to be quick to tell you that there is only about a 20% chance that you're going to naturally outgrow a problem with nut allergies. Even if you were to outgrow it, being in that small percentage of people, you would still need to be cautious for the rest of your life out of fear that a recurrence could happen. If your caught by a surprise allergic reaction, you may not be prepared for it and it could mean your very life.
Unfortunately, there is no medical treatment that is available currently which even helps to overcome the nut allergy at all. There are several different things that can be done medically in order for you to deal with the problem should it happen to occur. For example, mild allergies that happen as a result of cross contaminated foods or items can usually be overcome with the use of an over-the-counter antihistamine. For a more severe reaction, however, you need to make sure that you're carrying and epinephrine autoinjector at all times. These are only used in the case of anaphylaxis, a severe reaction that occurs in which your airways swell shut. If this should take place, this autoinjector can be the only thing that can save you at that point.
There are also some natural methods of treating nut allergies which many people have claimed to have helped. For example, going on an all raw food diet can clean your system enough that it may be able to handle this type of food. There are many naturalists who think that allergic reactions happen as a result of buildup of toxins in our liver and the lining of our colon. A raw food diet may help to cleanse your body enough that it can overcome the allergy. It may also be that you are having an allergic reaction because you are dehydrated. Look into the water cure as many people have claimed to have been helped with it.
Even if you are able to overcome your nut allergy, you should still be cautious for the rest of your life. Don't allow a surprise reaction to catch you with your guard down. Always make sure that you are prepared in case something should happen.
Peanut Intolerance - Should It Be Ignored?
Food allergies are relatively common but there are some that are going to be more severe than others. A good example of this is tree nut and peanut allergies. These can actually be so severe that they can take your life. In fact, anaphylaxis is a severe reaction to nuts that causes the airways to swell shut and your blood pressure to drop severely. You can either pass out or die of suffocation as a result of this problem.
Still, there is a big difference between peanut intolerance and peanut allergies. There are plenty of people who are intolerant to this type of food but are never going to experience a reaction that is as severe as anaphylaxis. Although they may have some mild reaction to the peanuts that they are eating, it may be classified differently as a result of it being less severe. That is why it is important for you to talk to your doctor about any reactions that you're having to peanuts in order for them to determine if what you are dealing with is truly an allergy or if it is simply an intolerance.
If your doctor determines that you are dealing with a peanut intolerance, you may be able to overcome it by simply avoiding peanuts in the foods that you eat. You may even be able to eat them on a regular basis but you're still going to have to put up with some of the problems that occur as a result of the intolerance. These problems typically include such things as gastrointestinal distress and heartburn. You may wonder, however, if it is necessary for you to be cautious to the point of avoiding them if you are only dealing with an intolerance.
Your doctor is going to be able to answer this question for you and more than likely, is going to advise you to avoid them if at all possible. This is not out of a fear of a severe reaction that occurs as a result of the peanut allergy but it is because you are not doing your body any favors by ingesting food that is causing the negative reaction. If you simply cannot avoid eating peanuts, even if you are asked to avoid them if possible, make sure that you are prepared for any reaction that you have. This can help you to overcome the discomfort of a peanut intolerance while you continue merrily crunching away.
What Are the Symptoms of Nut Allergies?
My child began to develop a problem with nuts whenever he was very young. I recognized the fact that whenever he ate certain foods, he seemed to be having a problem that was displaying itself in a number of different ways. It took me a little while to pin it down but it actually ended up being a nut allergy that he was dealing with. It was not only because of the nuts that were in the food that he was eating at times, it was also because of cross contamination which made it a lot more difficult to pin down.
If you are dealing with the possibility of a nut allergy, there are several different symptoms that may occur as a result. It is interesting why these symptoms tend to occur and you would probably be surprised to find out that it is not the nuts that is causing the symptoms, it is your own body. There are certain proteins that are in nuts which, if we have a nut allergy, is going to be seen by our body as being something very dangerous. In response to these proteins, our body will release a massive amount of histamine in order to combat it. We are not having a reaction to the nuts that we are eating, we are having a reaction to the histamine that our body is releasing.
Some of the more mild symptoms of nut allergy include slight respiratory distress, G.I. tract distress, skin problems and cardiovascular problems. Although many of these are not considered to be something that should be shrugged off, having a slight rash as a result of a nut allergy is not going to be life-threatening. There is, however, a danger that is lurking underneath the surface which should never be ignored.
If you are dealing with a nut allergy, you never know how your body is going to react. The most severe form of allergic reaction is known as anaphylaxis. This is very common for people that have nut allergies and many of them even carry an epinephrine autoinjector should such a problem occur. This is a reaction in which our airways can swell shut and our blood pressure can drop quickly. That is why it is important for you to talk to your doctor about any nut allergy symptoms that you may be experiencing, whether they are severe or mild.
Everyday Living with Nut Allergies
For those people that don't have to worry about nut allergies, having to deal with a problem like this is the last thing on their mind. For the most part, they go about their daily lives without much thought as to what they are eating or where they are eating it. If we do have nut allergies, however, we realized that making a mistake in this area can be deadly. That is why most of us have learned how to live our everyday lives with these nut allergies and to do it in such a way that it does not make it inconvenient.
The easiest way for us to be able to do this is to be informed about the environment that is around us. If you have a problem with nut allergies, you no doubt already realize that nuts are in almost everything that is around us. It is almost impossible for us to avoid them completely because cross contamination can occur at almost any level. Even so, it is important for us to make sure that we avoid it to the extent possible and for those of us who have a deadly allergy to nuts, we are fairly strict with ourselves as a result of this. Even though this is the case, it does not necessarily mean that we need to live a life of complete shelter. As long as you are prepared in case an accident should occur and you understand where to look for the nuts in the foods that you are eating, you should not have that much of a problem.
It is also important for us to avoid certain things in the environment which are going to cause a reaction on our part. You would be surprised with where you can pick up these things and many people have severe allergic reactions that can even occur as a result of touching something after somebody who had touched it with nuts on their hand. You can't completely shelter yourself from everything, however, so just make sure that you are prepared with some antihistamines and your epinephrine autoinjector in case accidental exposures should happen to occur.
As with anything, it's all a matter of getting used to it and being efficient at overcoming it. Although you are never going to be able to avoid nuts altogether, you would be surprised with the extent you can avoid them once you recognize where they exist.
Types of Nut Allergies
For those of us that don't have to deal with nut allergies, we tend to lump them all into one particular category. The fact of the matter is, there are many different types of nut allergies and some of them are even more severe than others. A good example of this is that people that have a peanut allergy do not necessarily have an allergy to tree nuts. The reason why this is the case is because a peanut is a legume but a tree nuts is a type of dried fruit. There is something else, however, that is lurking below the surface which makes these two different types of allergies, very different.
It all has to do with why we have the allergies in the first place. You might be surprised to find out that it is not the nuts that are causing the reaction that you are experiencing but it is your own body. There are certain proteins that are in nuts which may be thought of as being a dangerous substance whenever they enter into our body. If our body thinks of them in this way, it releases a massive amount of histamine in order to attack the protein and to remove it. The reaction we are experiencing is because of the histamine and not because of the nut itself. There are different types of proteins that exist in peanuts than exists in tree nuts. That is why many people who are allergic to one are not necessarily allergic to the other.
You may also be dealing with a type of intolerance to nuts and not actually have an allergy at all. Nut intolerance is inconvenient but it is not necessarily going to be something that is life-threatening to you. If you tend to have a reaction whenever you are around nuts or if you eat them, you should make sure to discuss it with your doctor in order to see which of these problems you are experiencing. If you're having mild reactions as a result of the nut allergy, it could suddenly become much worse and even turn into anaphylaxis, a condition where your airways may swell shut.
The only way for you to really tell what type of nut allergy you were experiencing is by having an allergy test. Through one of these tests, your doctor will quickly be able to determine where the problem lies and then you will know what you need to do in order to avoid problems in the future.
A Blood Test to Determine Nut Allergies
It doesn't matter if you are having a problem with eating food or if it seems that your young child is having a problem, it needs to be addressed. The reason why this is the case is because there are certain types of foods which can cause a reaction that is that is so severe that it can be life-threatening. A good example of this is a nut allergy, something that is more common than many people realize. Although reactions to this type of food can be mild, there is no rhyme or reason that let you know whenever you can have a severe reaction. At that point, it is typically referred to as being anaphylaxis and your airways can swell shut and your blood pressure drop to the point where you could die.
That is why it is important for you to speak to your doctor if you are having a difficulty with food allergies. They will be able to tell through a series of allergy tests whether you are having a problem or not. Although the most common type of allergy test is known as a prick test, there are also other types of tests which are available which may be a little bit more accurate. A good example of this is a blood test that can help to determine if you are dealing with a nut allergy or not.
The way that the blood test works is relatively easy to understand. There are certain proteins that are contained within different types of nuts. If we have an allergy, our body will produce antibodies in order to combat those proteins because they will see them as being a foreign body that is dangerous to our system. Unfortunately, our body will also release a massive amount of histamine anytime it recognizes that these proteins are present. This is what causes the reaction that we feel, and the reaction can be deadly without warning.
That is how a blood test to determine nut allergies actually works. After the blood is taken from you, the lab will look for the presence of those various types of antibodies. If they are present, that means that you have a nut allergy and you need to start avoiding nuts consistently. The reason why this is the case is because a mild allergy can turn severe without warning. That is why it is good to know if you are dealing with this problem and you can take steps to avoid eating nuts in the future.
Will You Always Have Nut Allergies?
Whenever I was very young, my parents started to recognize that I was having a difficult time whenever I ate certain foods. They were unaware of what I was allergic to but they did happen to mention it to my doctor who was able to determine that it was a nut allergy that I was having. As a result of this allergy, my parents were very strict in keeping me away from eating any nuts or even coming in contact with anything that had also come in contact with them. I didn't really know at the time that they were doing this in an effort to save my life because a nut allergy can cause a problem which is that severe.
As I grew older, I continue to have problems with this and at times, I experienced severe reactions that landed me in the hospital. I ended up carrying an epinephrine autoinjector on a regular basis, just in case I happen to have one of these reactions again. I also made sure that I carried antihistamines because they tend to help if I have a mild reaction as a result of only coming into some food that happens to be cross contaminated. I started to wonder if I would always have these nut allergies or not.
Unfortunately, I was never told any good news as far as overcoming this particular type of allergy was concerned. As a matter of fact, there is no medical treatment that is available in order to help you to overcome an allergy to nuts or to peanuts. There are some natural treatments that are available but I was always cautious about these as well because of the severity of the reaction that I would have whenever I came into contact with this type of food. There was a slight possibility that I would eventually outgrow it but really, only about one in five outgrow it and when they do, it could always recur.
That is why I will have to be cautious for the rest of my life whenever it comes to the nut allergies that I am experiencing. Although it can be a little bit discouraging from time to time, I have gotten used to the fact that I will always have to deal with the situation so I make sure that I am prepared in advance. It has allowed me to live my life as normally as possible, even in a world where nuts are everywhere.

Nut Allergies Are Nothing to Ignore
There are certain things that we have to deal with in life that we can really just brush off and ignore. There are also things that we have to deal with which should never be ignored because if we do so, it can mean our very life. This is the case whenever it comes to nut allergies and if you have been diagnosed as having one, you are going to need to be cautious for the rest of your life. Even if your allergic reaction tends to be rather mild, it can turn severe at any point and without any warning whatsoever. This can cause a lot of problems for you, including death.
That is the reason why you should never ignore a nut allergy and you should do everything in your power to make sure that you're avoiding coming in contact with this type of food. This can make things very difficult for you and you would be surprised with how many places nuts turn up whenever you start looking for them. They are hidden in a variety of different food items, some of which you may never have even have thought about before. Reading the label is often not enough because you need to be informed ahead of time in order to make sure that no nuts exist at all.
There are also other things which can cause this problem which you may not have thought about as well. For example, nuts can also be present in dog food and other types of food that we would feed to our pets or farm animals. Not only that, the saliva of the dog that eats this type of food can also be contaminated so if they should happen to lick you, you could end up having a reaction. That is why it is important for you to be as informed as possible because they are in the environment around us at all times and if we are dealing with a severe reaction, any contact with these things can cause anaphylaxis, a condition where our airways swell shut that can be life-threatening.
If you or somebody you know is dealing with nut allergies, speak to your doctor about what you can do in order to be prepared, should an accidental ingestion take place. This is your best defense against overcoming this problem and dealing with it for the rest of your life.
Drink Water for Nut Allergies
Sometimes, a solution that is so simple can be easy to overlook because it is hiding in plain sight. This may also be the case if you are dealing with a nut allergy. There are many people that have claimed to have overcome this particular allergy as a result of doing something that is very simple and is also free. Perhaps you may be able to try the same thing and to overcome your problem if you are able.
This can be very encouraging to people that are having to deal with nut allergies on a regular basis. The reason why this is the case is because a nut allergy is so dangerous that it can cause us to die if we do not get the proper help. Even though our reaction to the nuts that we eat may be mild on occasion, it can also be severe without warning and cause a condition that is known as anaphylaxis in which our airways swell shut and our blood pressure drops to the extent that we may pass out and die. For that reason, strict avoidance of nuts and anything that comes into contact with nuts is necessary if we are dealing with this allergy.
There is some thought in the natural health community, however, that any type of allergy is not really a reaction of our body to that type of food, it is a matter of us being dehydrated. Most of us do not drink enough water on a regular basis and for this reason, we tend to be chronically dehydrated for our entire life. In order for us to overcome this dehydration, we need to consistently drink enough water and to take a little bit of salt with the water so that it stays within our system long enough to do its job. This is known as the water cure and there is plenty of information that is freely available on the Internet which will help you to get started with this.
It is thought that dehydration causes these problems to occur in individuals. If it is really as simple as drinking enough water, wouldn't that be worth it in order to overcome a problem that you may have been dealing with for your entire life. Give the water cure a try, you might be surprised to find out that it actually takes your nut allergies away from you and makes you feel better than you have ever felt before.
If You Can't Overcome It - Learn to Live with It
Dealing with a nut allergy can be extremely discouraging because it causes us to live in such a way that we have to avoid almost everything that is in the world around us. As we learn about the different places that we may come in contact with this type of food, we suddenly begin to come to the conclusion that there is no place that is safe from it. Although this may seem like the case whenever you are first learning about it, you would actually be surprised to find out that it is possible to successfully avoid nuts and still live a relatively normal life.
The way that you're able to do this is to become informed about the world around you. This is not only the case when it comes to the type of foods that you eat but it is also the case whenever it comes to other things in our world. For example, did you realize that many dog foods contain nuts as well as hamster food and even hamster bedding? If you feed your dog is kind of food, you have to be careful that you never come in contact with it while you are feeding them. Even if you are able to avoid this kind of contact, you may still have a reaction if your dog happens to lick you as his saliva will also contain the nut protein.
You also need to become very efficient at reading labels and being able to read between the lines. Many foods are not going to come right out and tell you that one of the ingredients contains nuts but many of them do. For example, did you realize that many salad dressings contain nuts? You need to make sure that you understand exactly where the nuts are so that you can avoid them at all cost.
Since you are unable to overcome a nut allergy and it is going to be something that you're going to have to deal with for the rest of your life, you need to learn how to live with it. This is not only because you want to be able to lead a fairly normal life, even though you're going to have to avoid many things in it, it is also because it means your very life if you happen to be uninformed about where the nuts are.
Know What You Are Eating - Your Life Could Depend on It
Most people just tend to eat whatever happens to be on their plate and they don't give any thought to the fact that they may have an allergy to something that is there. The reason why this is the case is because many people don't have severe allergies to the food that they eat. Yes, they may be lactose intolerant or they may have to blow their nose whenever they are finished eating but for people that have severe allergies, it can be a matter of life and death.
This is the case whenever it comes to those who are dealing with a nut allergy. Although most of the time, the allergies that people experience whenever they eat these nuts are rather mild, they can also be severe and come on without warning. That is why somebody that realizes that they have a nut allergy is going to have to strictly avoid eating any type of nut or else they may have a reaction which could kill them. Why is that the case?
It is because there are proteins that are in these nuts, whether they be peanuts or tree nuts which our body does not like. For one reason or another, our body produces a massive amount of histamine whenever these proteins are present. That is what causes our reaction, the presence of the histamine in our system. Typically, a causes a slight reaction in our respiratory or perhaps even our skin or gastrointestinal system. It can cause a condition, however, that is known as anaphylaxis in which we may die of suffocation.
That is why it is important to make sure that you understand exactly where the nuts are located when it comes to the food that you are eating. It is not enough for you only to avoid the nuts that are directly in the food. You also need to be concerned about something that is known as cross-contamination, a problem in which nuts come in contact indirectly with the food that you are eating. A good example of this is processed food that is made in a factory which also makes food that contains nuts. This can easily cause a reaction in you that could be deadly.
So, make sure that you understand exactly what you are eating and learn how to read the label effectively so that you can avoid these nuts and the reaction that they may cause.
Watch out for Hidden Nuts
If you knew everything that you are eating, you would probably be surprised to find out that there were some pretty unusual things that were included in the food. There are also certain types of food that seem to be almost everywhere in the environment around us. Most of us just tend to avoid this information or to ignore it because it does not necessarily involve us directly. If you are dealing with an allergic reaction to nuts, however, it is going to be foremost on your mind whenever you are making food choices. The reason why this is the case is because even food that is slightly contaminated could cost you your very life.
The only way that you're going to be able to avoid this type of food is to learn how to read the labels effectively. Many foods that contain nuts in the ingredients are not necessarily going to come right out and tell you on the label. Some of them will, but many of them won't. That is why it is important for you to understand the ingredients that are in the foods that you eat and which of them contain nuts as a product and which don't.
Of course, it would be simple if we only had to watch what type of food we eat but some of us are so severely allergic to nuts that we also need to watch what is in the environment around us. For example, if we are on an airplane that is giving nuts as a snack, simply breathing the air from people opening up those bags of nuts could cause a deadly reaction in us. Another example is if you happen to get secondhand items. If somebody owned that item before and there were nuts present in their home, you could actually end up with a reaction because of coming in contact with it.
It is going to be impossible for you to totally avoid nuts for the rest of your life. Even though you can do a fairly good job of avoiding them, you also need to be prepared for the possibility of having a reaction that you were not expecting. Always carry antihistamine with you and if your doctor prescribed it, epinephrine autoinjector. These will help you to overcome some of the problems that you may experience, should you accidentally come in contact with nuts.
Why Am I Having an Allergic Reaction to Nuts?
At times, it is not enough to simply enough that we are having a problem but we may want to understand what is going on underneath the surface. I know that whenever I was very young, my parents told me that I was not able to eat nuts and they were very strict with making sure that I avoided them. I came to appreciate that this was not because they were trying to keep me away from something that I should have, it was because they were concerned for my very life. The reactions that I had whenever I ate nuts were so severe that at times, it landed me in the hospital.
You might be surprised to find out what is at the root of your allergic reaction to nuts. Actually, it is not really the nuts that are causing you to have a problem at all, it is your own body. There are certain proteins that are present in all types of nuts and at times, our body may react to these proteins as if it were a dangerous toxin. In an effort to get rid of the protein, our body will release a massive amount of histamine into our system and this can cause us to feel the way that we do. This histamine can cause a number of different problems with this which can range from skin disorders to anaphylaxis, a deadly allergic reaction.
Unfortunately, there is little that can be done in order to overcome nut allergies. There has always been a lot of research that has gone into this but the best that they are able to do is to help you to cope with the symptoms that you experience if you should happen to come into contact with nuts. For example, if you have a slight reaction you may be able to overcome it by taking an over-the-counter antihistamine. If you have a more severe reaction, however, such as anaphylaxis, you may need to take an injection. Many people that have severe nut allergies carry an epinephrine autoinjector with them that quickly gives them the medicine that they need.
Since you understand the reason why you are having these allergic reactions, you can easily see the reason why an anti-histamine can help you overcome it. Always make sure that you are prepared, even though you will also what to make sure that you avoid nuts in the first place. Should you happen to come into contact with them accidentally, you should be able to overcome any reaction that you experience.
Direct and Cross Contact Nut Allergies and What to Do about Them
If you have to deal with a nut allergy, you are probably concerned with how you're going to come in contact with it. Most of us are pretty good at avoiding contact with nuts directly because they are relatively easy for us to identify. Even if they are an ingredient in the food that we are eating, we can easily see that whenever we read the label. There may be other times, however, when we need to be cautious about the food that we eat because there may be some nuts that are hiding below the surface. These are not directly identified for us on the label so we need to make sure that we are looking for them on a constant basis.
The most common way that we might come in contact with these type of nut products is through a process that is known as cross-contamination. A good example of this is if we eat something that was processed at a factory that also processes food which contains a variety of different nuts. If the equipment is not properly cleaned in between the processes, we can easily have a little bit of leftover nuts in our food as well. This may be enough for a reaction to occur in us that could even be deadly.
It might also be that we come into contact directly with these nuts and don't realize it. It is important for you to inform anybody that you know or that will be preparing food for you that you have a severe allergy. Don't assume that they understand what a nut allergy is because many people think that it would just be a matter of you having a slight reaction, at the most. Let them know that even contact with a little bit of nuts can produce a deadly result so you need to avoid them completely.
There is nothing that can be done about nut allergies in order to help you to overcome it, according to medical science. That is why it is necessary for you to be prepared, just in case you happen to come into contact with something that contains nuts. Carry an anti-histamine with you at all times and if you're allergy is severe enough, keep an epinephrine prescription with you as well. These things may be a little bit inconvenient but they can certainly save your life, should you happen to come into contact with nuts unexpectedly.
Growing up with Nut Allergies
Most children tend to eat almost anything that is put in front of them. Although some of them can be a little bit picky about the foods that they choose, they don't really have any problem eating these foods, even if they don't like them. For some of us, however, we may have to deal with nut allergies that can cause problems that are so severe, they can even take our life. This was the case with me whenever I was growing up and although I didn't understand it whenever I was a very young child, it didn't take many years for me to learn that I needed to stay away from these nuts altogether.
The most important thing about growing up whenever you have nut allergies is that your parents need to be totally involved in the situation. Children are unable to make these decisions on their own and they may not be aware of the dangers that are lurking in the background at times. A parent of a child that is dealing with nut allergies needs to make sure that they are informed and educated on the problem and where it may manifest itself. This is the only way that your child is truly going to be able to overcome the nut allergy as a result of strict avoidance of any food which may contain it.
It is also possible that you may come in contact with nuts as a result of touching things in the environment around you. For example, if you happen to go to a friends house that loves peanut butter, you could end up touching something that they also touched whenever they had peanut butter on their hands. Believe it or not, this is enough to invoke an allergic reaction in many children that is strong enough to kill them. Don't leave anything like this to chance. Make sure that you talk to anybody that your child is friends with and their parents so that they know exactly how severe of a situation you are dealing with.
Unfortunately, it is not a very comfortable thing to grow up in such a situation. It can lead to some embarrassment on the child's part and even some taunting from other children who may not understand their problem. Make sure that you stick to your program, however, because it is the only way that you're going to ensure the fact that your child is safe.
Natural Healing for Those with Nut Allergies
If you happen to have a problem with nut allergies, you have no doubt already spoken to your doctor about the possibility of finding a cure. Your doctor is going to be very quick to tell you that there is nothing that can be done for your nut allergy and that the only thing that you are going to be able to do, is to avoid eating nuts and coming in contact with them. He may also prescribe an injectable product that is known as epinephrine as well as telling you to make sure that you always have a supply of antihistamines with you.
Just because your doctor tells you that there is not a cure for nut allergies does not necessarily mean that there is nothing that you can do about it. Although it is always a good idea to make sure that you avoid nuts if you have a problem with them, you may want to try some natural cures in order to see if they're able to help you overcome this problem once and for all. Here are two different things that people tend to do in an effort to overcome their nut allergies. Perhaps one of these will help you.
There is a lot of thought in the natural health community that we have allergies as a result of the toxins that are built up in our body. In order for you to overcome your allergic reactions, you need to purge our body of all of these toxins. This can either be done through a series of colon cleansing along with some fasting or perhaps dietary limits which help our body to purge the toxins. This can be a rather long process but some people have claimed to have been successful in overcoming their nut allergies as a result of it.
Believe it or not, there is also a lot of thought that allergies come as a result of our bodies being dehydrated. Almost everybody is dehydrated to a certain extent and very few of us drink enough water in order to make a difference. By following the water cure and drinking enough water on a daily basis, along with taking some natural sea salt, you may be able to do some good. There have been plenty of people who have claimed to overcome their problem with allergies as a result of this cure. Try it for yourself, it's free and it may just help you to overcome your problem.
Living with Nut Allergy Symptoms
I can remember the first time that I had a reaction to nuts as if it were yesterday. I was out at a restaurant, eating food that I had eaten many times in the past. I began to feel as if my entire body were crawling with bugs and within a few minutes, I was having a difficult time breathing. Although this reaction was somewhat mild, it alerted me to the fact that I had a problem which needed to be addressed. It took a little bit of investigation but through a series of allergy tests, my doctor was able to determine that I had a problem with a nut allergy.
At first, I thought that it was not a big deal and that I would just have to avoid eating these nuts in order to avoid having the problem again. I was surprised to find out that the next reaction that I had might be deadly. As a matter of fact, I had probably been dealing with this nut allergy for quite some time but the reactions that I was having were so slight that I wasn't able to recognize them. My experience in the restaurant was enough to teach me a lesson, however, so I began looking for a way to deal with the symptoms, should they happen to occur again.
I was surprised to find out that there was very little that can be done in order to overcome a nut allergy. As a matter of fact, the only way to overcome it is to overcome it naturally. Unfortunately, very few people were able to outgrow their nut allergy so it is something that they have to deal with for the rest of their life. The only option that I had was to make sure that I was prepared, should I happen to have another reaction to nuts that I accidentally came in contact with.
There are two different things that I always carry and I make sure that they are my constant companion. The first of these was an over the counter antihistamine which had a fast absorption. If I started to feel as if I was having a little bit of a reaction because of food that I was eating, I immediately took one of these antihistamines to see if I could cut it off. If the reaction turned severe, however, I also had an injectable drug which was prescribed to me by my doctor. Of course, avoiding nuts was my first line of defense but other than that, these two things help me to deal with the symptoms.
What Are the Types of Nut Allergies?
I was on an airplane one time and just before we took off, a message came over the PA system stating that nuts would not be served on that particular flight. They also asked anybody that happened to have any nuts with them that they did not open them on the airplane because several of the passengers had a problem with nut allergies. At first, I was a little bit irritated by this but that was only because I did not understand exactly how severe a nut allergy reaction could be. As a matter of fact, if somebody would've happened to have opened some nuts on the plane, it could have killed those who had a problem.
I did a little bit of research on the subject and was surprised to find out that nut allergies differed from person to person. I also learned something that was very interesting which I never knew before. A person with a peanut allergy may not have an allergic reaction to tree nuts. The reason why this is the case is because a peanut is not a nut at all. It is actually a legume and tree nuts are dried fruit. These caused reactions to different people because they were actually having a reaction to the protein that is in these nuts and that protein differed in each case.
I was also surprised to find out that there is a difference between having a nut intolerance and a nut allergy. A person with a nut intolerance is going to have very mild symptoms that are associated with eating the nuts. For example, they might have diarrhea or perhaps heartburn but it is never going to be life-threatening. A person who has a nut allergy, on the other hand, can have a reaction that is known as anaphylaxis and it can kill them very quickly.
If you seem to be having a problem whenever you're eating food that contains nuts, make sure that you talk to your doctor about it. They will do a series of tests that will help to determine whether you have a nut allergy or not. Understanding whether you have a problem with this or not is your best line of defense whenever it comes to dealing with the problem. Make sure that your informed about the situation so that you can begin changing your life in order to save it.
Treatments for Nut Allergies
Dealing with a nut allergy is a very serious situation. Although most people only have a mild reaction whenever they ingest nuts or come in contact with them, they may also have a very severe reaction without any warning. As a matter of fact, that is why people who have a problem with nut allergies adhere to a schedule of strict avoidance of any food that contains nuts. The reason why this is the case is because they never know whenever they are going to have to deal with a life-threatening situation as a result of eating something that contains nuts.
Unfortunately, your doctor is going to be very quick to inform you that there is little that can be done in order to help you to overcome the problem. As with most things where medical science is concerned, they will give you a prescription that will help you to overcome some of the symptoms but will never help you to overcome the disease. Although it is a good idea for you to carry one of these things in case of an emergency, it is also good for you to look for some natural ways in order to overcome the problem. Although these natural methods of never been confirmed by medical science, that doesn't mean that they are something that you should totally overlooked.
There are several different ways of overcoming nut allergies naturally which are tried. One of the easiest of these, however, is by simply drinking some water. You would be surprised with the number of individuals who have claimed to overcome severe allergic reactions because they started drinking enough water in order to overcome dehydration. Most of us know that we don't drink enough water on a regular basis but do we know exactly what dehydration does to our bodies? As a result of chronic dehydration, many people have severe diseases and allergies that can be life-threatening.
This process is known as the water cure and it is free to try and to do for the rest of your life. You might be surprised to find out exactly how good you feel once you begin drinking enough water for your body. You might also be surprised to find out that your allergies begin to disappear and that you are able to overcome the symptoms that you are experiencing. It is one of the only treatments for allergies and fortunately, it seems to help.
Histamine and Nut Allergies - What Is the Connection?
Although a lot of people have to deal with nut allergies, many of them are not aware of exactly what is going on behind the scenes that is causing these allergies. Many of them mistakenly think that the allergy is a direct result of eating the nut but this could not be further from the truth. Yes, you need to avoid eating them if you are having an allergic reaction to them but it is not the nuts that are causing the symptoms that you are experiencing, it is your own body.
The reason that this is the case is because that there are very specific proteins that are in nuts which do not exist in any other type of food. If we have a nut allergy, our body actually considers these proteins to be a foreign invader that is dangerous. In an effort to ward off this protein, our body will produce antibodies in order to fight them away. Whenever it recognizes that this protein is in our system, it will also dump an extreme amount of histamine into our body in order to counteract its effects. It is this histamine that is causing the symptoms that we are experiencing.
It doesn't matter what kind of symptoms you have whenever you have a nut allergy, the histamine that your body produces is behind it all. This is the case whenever it comes to a slight rash that may occur and it is also the case whenever it is anaphylaxis, a deadly condition that can cut off our air and kill us. That is why it is important for us to carry anti-histamine in case we should happen to experience an allergic reaction. You aren't actually overcoming the allergies because of the anti-histamine, you are simply blocking your body from producing the histamine that is causing the symptoms.
Unfortunately, we never know how our body is going to react as a result of the nuts that we eat. At times, our reaction may be somewhat slight and easy to overcome. At other times, however, it can cause a life-threatening situation which will land us in the hospital. Even though it is not the nuts that are causing the problem it is, as a result of our body not accepting them, necessary to avoid them altogether. This is your best line of defense against having these problems so make sure that your informed about the environment around you.
Treatments for Nut Allergies - What Are They?
Almost all of us love food and it is certainly something that was meant to be enjoyed. There are times, however, whenever we may have a problem that is so severe that it can kill us if we eat the wrong kinds of foods. There are several different things which can cause an allergic reaction that is the severe but one of the most common is a problem with nut allergies. As a matter of fact, you would probably be surprised to find out exactly how many people are dealing with this problem, whether they recognize it or not.
Unfortunately, medical science is able to do little for us if we are dealing with a nut allergy. They may tell us to take some over-the-counter antihistamines or may even prescribe an injectable product for us in case our allergic reaction happens to be severe. These are only things that cover over the symptoms of the allergy and they really do very little if anything to help us to overcome it. That being said, it is still important for us to make sure that we keep these things with us on a regular basis in case an allergic reaction should happen to occur.
Don't lose hope, however, just because medical science is unable to do anything to help you to overcome this problem. There are several different natural cures which claim to help with nut allergies and some people have said that they have used them successfully. For example, purging our body of toxins through diet, exercise and occasional fasting has been said to help many individuals to overcome allergies. The reason why this is the case is because it is thought that many of the allergies that we experience are a result of toxins that are buildup in our body to an extreme level.
Another thing that you may want to try in order to overcome your allergies is drinking water. Although this seems rather simplistic, there is a lot of thought that the diseases that we experience come about as a result of chronic dehydration. It is really a little thing for us to drink enough water on a regular basis and to take a pinch or two of sea salt in order to help it stay in our body long enough to do its work. Try this for yourself, you would probably be surprised to find out that it does a lot of good for your health.
Hidden Dangers of Nut Allergies
All of us have eaten something that didn't agree with us but there may be times whenever something more is lurking below the surface. This is the case whenever it comes to nut allergies and you might be surprised to learn that what is a simple reaction to eating the wrong kind of food one day may land you in the hospital, or worse, tomorrow. Let's take a little look at nut allergies, where they come from and why there may be some hidden dangers that are involved for those that have to deal with this problem.
All food has protein and there are specific proteins that are existing in nuts which may cause a problem for those of us with allergies. It is not really the nuts itself but it is the fact that our body reacts to them as if they were a toxin that was invading it. They produce antibodies which attack the protein and keep our body safe from it, as if it needed to be kept safe from it. Unfortunately, our body releases a large amount of histamines and this is what makes us feel as if we are having an allergic reaction. It is not the peanuts or tree nuts that are causing us to feel this way, it is our own body and its inability to recognize that nuts are not the enemy.
This can cause a lot of different problems for us and some of the more common reactions that we may experience as a result of nut allergies include respiratory problems, skin conditions and gastrointestinal distress. Most of these are relatively easy to put up with but unfortunately, it can also cause some problems that are potentially deadly. There is a condition that is known as anaphylaxis which comes as a result of severe allergic reactions, such as this. If it is not treated, it can easily kill us so we need to be alert to the fact that nut allergies are certainly not something that we should fool with.
This type of a condition can occur without warning and even if we have never had a problem as severe as this in the past. If we recognize the fact that we are having a problem with nut allergies, it is imperative that we avoid nuts at all cost so that we do not end up having a reaction which we cannot overcome.
Don't Ignore Reactions to Nuts
Whenever my son was very young, he began to have some reactions to the foods that he ate. I was a little bit concerned but I really didn't think much about it because I also have food allergies that I have to deal with regularly. The reaction started to get a little bit stronger so I took the information to his doctor and ask him what could be the problem. I was asked several questions and it didn't take long for the doctor to be able to determine that what he was having was a reaction to nuts. What I was really surprised about is the fact that these reactions could be bad enough that it could kill him.
I immediately began to learn everything that I could about nuts, where they exist in the environment around us and where they hide in the foods that we eat. I was surprised to find out that it was almost impossible to stay completely away from them unless you were completely informed on these things. The last thing that I wanted to have happen is for my son to have a severe reaction to nuts that were hidden, somehow in the food that he was eating.
I also began to carry around a few things, just in case he had an allergic reaction that was severe. For example, I always carried some over-the-counter antibiotics so that I could give him a dose if he should happen to show some mild reactions whenever he was eating. His doctor also gave me a prescription for and epinephrine autoinjector which was only to be used if he had a severe and life-threatening reaction which is known as anaphylaxis.
I'm very happy that I didn't ignore the fact that he had a problem and that food allergies were beginning to display themselves. Due to the fact that people who have nut allergies react differently at different times, I was fortunate that I was able to find out before he ever had a reaction that was too severe that I was unable to overcome it. I make it a point to check out everything that he eats and to tell all of his friend's parents that this is not a light matter and they need to be informed about what they feed to my son as well. It takes a little bit of work on my part, but my son is well worth it.
Do You Have a Nut Allergy?
All of us have experienced a problem where we had a little bit of an allergic reaction to something that we ate. Many times this reaction shows up as additional mucus in our throat or perhaps even a necessity to blow our nose after we eat. We may simply shrug these things off because they are little more than an inconvenience to us. That can be a lethal mistake because if we have the wrong kind of allergy, it may end up causing a problem that we are unable to simply overcome.
This is especially the case if you're dealing with a problem with nut allergies. Nut allergies are an extremely common occurrence and some people that have them don't even realize exactly how severe they can be. Because our body reacts to the proteins within the nuts if we have one of these allergies, we never know exactly what is going to happen. When our body releases histamine in order to overcome the problem that it perceives, it can cause anything from a slight rash to a problem that is known as anaphylaxis which is often deadly.
That is why if we have a nut allergy, it is necessary for us to strictly avoid anything that may contain nuts in the world around us. This is not only the case whenever it comes to food that we eat, it is also true of such simple things as dog food, cosmetics, ant traps, baked goods and even secondhand toys which may have been in a house where nuts were constantly used. We also need to pay strict attention to the way the food is prepared as we can end up with nuts in our food directly or even with a trace of nuts as a result of cross contamination.
It is imperative that we speak to our doctor if we feel that we may have a nut allergy. He will be able to run a series of test that will determine if we simply have an intolerance for the food or if we have an actual allergy to it. He will also be able to tell us some things that we should carry with us on a regular basis, just in case we come in contact with nuts accidentally. Don't leave these things to chance, it can mean your very life.
What Are the Tests for Nut Allergies?
If you seem to have a problem with allergies whenever you are eating, it may be more than a simple problem that you are experiencing. As a matter of fact, if you are having a nut allergy, the problem may be mild today but tomorrow it could take your life. That is because our body reacts to things that it is allergic to in different ways, on different days. One day we may just have a slight rash or perhaps a little bit of extra mucus as a result of eating nuts. The next day, however, it can throw us into an anaphylactic shock and kill us.
If we feel that we may have a nut allergy, it is important that we speak to our doctor as soon as we figure this out in order to find out if something can be done about it. The doctor is going to run a series of tests that will determine if we are dealing with a nut allergy or not. You might be surprised to find out that it is possible that we have an intolerance for this type of food but are not actually dealing with an allergy. If that is the case, what we are experiencing is more or less and inconvenience and will never be life-threatening.
There are two different ways that you may be tested to find out if you have nut allergies. The first way is known as a prick test and it is the easiest of the two to perform. Basically, your skin is going to be scratched with a needle that contains a little bit of the proteins that exist in the nuts. Your doctor is going to watch this area for a reaction that will occur within moments after this test takes place.
Another test for nut allergies is a blood test. Because our body releases antibodies whenever it is having a reaction to the proteins that exist in nuts, it is easy to determine if we have an allergy. By extracting a sample of our blood and checking in to see if these specific antibodies are present, the doctor is able to tell accurately if we have an allergy or not. If he finds out that we do, we will need to become educated on what we need to do in order to make sure that we never come in contact with nuts again.
Knowledge about Nut Allergies Can Save Your Life
There is an old saying that goes, to be forewarned is to be forearmed. This is a very true statement and it is important for us to have knowledge about a subject, especially if it is something that potentially can hurt us. A good example of this is if we have nut allergies. These are not simply a mild allergy that we tend to put up with on a regular basis. A nut allergy can easily turn deadly, even if an individual has never felt more than a mild allergy to it before.
Having knowledge ahead of time about nut allergies is your first and best line of defense whenever it comes to overcoming this problem. Of course, it is always going to be an ongoing process and you will never stop learning. You should also make sure that you are prepared in case you happen to ingest some nuts accidentally. There are two things that you should always have with you for just such an emergency. The first of these is an antihistamine, one that is generally available in an over-the-counter form. The second is a prescription for a epinephrine injection, just in case you happen to have a problem that is so severe that you are unable to overcome it. Although strict avoidance is the best way for you to deal with the problem, being prepared can certainly save your life if an accident should happen to occur.
Dealing with a Nut Allergy
It is one thing for you to have a simple food allergy that you need to deal with on a regular basis. For example, there are plenty of people that are lactose intolerant but that doesn't necessarily mean that they totally avoid milk in all instances. For the most part, they simply know that if they do happen to ingest some milk that they are going to pay the consequences which are uncomfortable but somewhat mild. The same is not true for an individual that is dealing with a nut allergy. Although for the most part, they're reaction is going to be somewhat mild, it is also possible for the reaction to be so severe that it can quickly take their life.
It is not a matter of learning how to overcome a nut allergy because that is impossible according to medical science. Instead, it is a matter of learning how to deal with the nut allergy so that you do not have the problem in the first place. As a matter of fact, avoiding food that contains nuts in any form is your first line of defense and is one that you should certainly do on a regular basis. Of course, it is going to mean that you're going to have to be knowledgeable on the subject but since it involves your very life, it is a knowledge that you should do your utmost to take in.
Although it is important for you to avoid these nuts in the food that you eat, there may be times whenever an accident does occur. Perhaps there is a hidden ingredient that you did not realize in the food that you ate whenever you were out for a meal. It is important that you are prepared for just such an emergency by carrying some anti-histamine with you as well as any prescription that your doctor may have given you, just in case you happen to have a severe reaction.
Dealing with a nut allergy can be very difficult and it causes us to alter our lifestyle to a certain extent. Since you don't have any other option rather than to learn how to deal with it, make sure that you make the most of it and be informed enough that you can make good decisions, even on the fly. In doing so, you will in sure that you're doing everything within your power to keep yourself from having a reaction that you may not be able to overcome.
Have a Nut Allergy? Have a Plan!
Have you ever heard the saying, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail? Truer words have never really been spoken and believe it or not, it actually is also true whenever it comes to allergies that we may have. Although many of us have allergies to a variety of different things that is in the environment around us, if we are dealing with a severe allergy, we need to make sure that we have a plan in place in order to overcome it.
One of the worst allergies that a person can have is that of a nut allergy. There are other allergies which are also just as severe, shellfish being one of them but if you have to deal with a nut allergy, you need to make sure that you are prepared in advance to be able to deal with it. There are two specific things that you need to do in order to be well prepared for a problem in this area. The first thing that you need to do is to be informed about the environment that is around you so that you can avoid them to the best of your ability. The second thing that you need to do is to be prepared in case an accident should happen to occur in which you ingest what you are allergic to.
People that are just learning about nut allergies are often shocked to find out that nuts are everywhere in the world around us. Even foods that do not contain nuts at all are often prepared in an environment that prepares foods which do contain nuts. Since we are dealing with an allergy that is extremely sensitive, even a little bit of exposure can make enough of a problem for you that it could kill you. Make sure that you understand all of these things and learn how to identify them in the environment around you
Secondly, you need to be prepared for whenever an accidental ingestion happens to take place. If you're having a mild reaction, you can also overcome it through the use of an antihistamine. Simply pick one up at your local drugstore and make sure you keep a fresh supply with you on a regular basis. For a more severe and life-threatening reaction, however, you need to make sure that you have a prescription of epinephrine with you. Be prepared in case something like this should happen, it could mean your very life.
Do You Have a Nut Allergy or a Nut Intolerance?
As parents, we are often told that we need to watch what our children are eating in order to find out if they are having a reaction to it or not. If we do notice that our children are having a reaction to food, we must speak to their doctor about it as quickly as possible in order to find out what can be done. Unfortunately, there are times whenever nothing can be done, such as whenever we have a nut allergy. The only thing that we can do is to make sure that our children are avoiding them altogether and to be prepared, just in case a reaction should happen.
You might be surprised to find out that it is possible for you to have a reaction to nuts and peanuts without actually having an allergy. The difference is that if you only have a nut intolerance, your symptoms are going to be light and are probably only going to include such things as diarrhea or perhaps heartburn. There will never come a time whenever your nut intolerance is going to become a life-threatening situation that you may have to deal with. Although it is uncomfortable, you can continue to eat nuts without a problem.
The same is not true of individuals that have a nut allergy. For them, ingesting a small portion of nuts can cause a reaction within them that can take their life rather quickly. Although most reactions as far as nut allergies are concerned are mild, you never know when an individual is going to have a reaction that is severe. That is the main reason why it is important to find out if we are actually dealing with a nut allergy or if it is a simple matter of being intolerant to that type of food.
If we find out that we are actually dealing with a nut allergy, we need to do everything within our power in order to avoid eating nuts. This not only includes eating them directly but it also includes finding out if where our food is prepared might also include preparation of food that contains nuts. This type of cross contamination can be just as damaging to our health as eating them directly. Make sure that you are informed about all of these things and always be watching for a way to identify these problems in advance.
Severe Nut Allergies
Most people that have nut allergies tend to experience mild reactions to them. There may be times, however, when an individual has such severe nut allergies that it becomes a life-threatening situation. I can remember being on an airplane one time whenever they announced that no nuts would be served on the flight. They also said that any individuals who happen to carry any onto the plane should keep them in a sealed container and not open them. Believe it or not, just having that little bit of nut dust in the air would have been enough to kill these individuals. That is how serious a severe nut allergy can be.
You might be surprised to find out that a nut allergy is not actually a reaction that you are having to the nuts that you are eating. It is actually a problem in which our body is unable to recognize the fact that the protein within the nuts is not a bad thing. It attacks it as if it were a foreign toxin and in order to fight it away, it produces antibodies within our system along with dumping a lot of histamine in as well. The symptoms that we are experiencing come about as a result of this histamine being released into our system. It is not the nuts that are making us feel poorly, it is our own body.
Even if you have only had a mild reaction to nuts in the past, don't let this fool you. Every time you ingest nuts, you are going to have a different type of reaction than what you had before. It may appear the same on many occasions but it is actually different in some subtle ways. There may come a time, however, whenever you have a more severe reaction or perhaps even anaphylaxis, a condition that can kill you. Don't think that you can get away with eating these because you have not had a problem with it in the past. If you're dealing with a nut allergy, it is a severe nut allergy, regardless of how you reacted earlier.
If you tend to have extremely severe nut allergies on a regular basis, ask your doctor to prescribe an injectable medication for you. You should also make sure that you are carrying antihistamine around incase you have a reaction. These two things can save your life so never be without them.
